About this extension

Native Color Picker - Eyedropper & Palette is a color picker for designers, developers and anyone working with screen colors. Capture a visible pixel with the browser's native eyedropper, then edit, copy and reuse its color in one local workspace.

✨ WHAT IT DOES

  • Pick a pixel from your screen and copy its color automatically in your preferred HEX, RGB or HSL format.
  • Enter an existing color code manually, or switch formats without opening another tool.
  • Keep ten recent colors and pin up to six colors in a reusable palette.
  • Export your pinned palette as JSON or CSS custom properties. Import a compatible JSON palette to merge colors into the available slots.
  • Compare a foreground and background color with a two-color contrast checker. See the ratio, WCAG AA and AAA results for normal text, and AA for large text.
  • Choose a light theme, dark theme or your system preference.
  • Open the popup with a keyboard shortcut and start screen picking with Enter or Space.

🚀 HOW TO USE

  1. Pin Native Color Picker to the toolbar and open it. The first-run quick start explains the controls and active shortcut.
  2. Click Pick Color, then click a visible pixel. Press Escape to cancel the native selection without saving a new color.
  3. Copy a format, edit the value or pin a color. Open the palette tools to import or export your saved colors, or compare two colors for contrast.

🎯 WHO IT'S FOR Designers collecting a few brand colors from a visible mockup. Frontend developers transferring HEX, RGB and HSL values into CSS. People checking whether a chosen text and background pair has enough contrast.

🔒 PRIVACY Colors, history, pinned palettes, preferences and usage counters stay in this Chrome profile's local extension storage. Palette files are read or downloaded on your device. The color picker does not upload them, collect browsing history or use analytics. No account is required. Store review and recommendation links open only when you choose them.

❓ FAQ Does it scan a website or generate palettes from images? No. Select individual visible pixels with the native eyedropper, or enter opaque color values manually. It does not inspect page styles or extract an image palette automatically.

Is the contrast result a full accessibility audit? No. It calculates the contrast of the two colors you select. It does not check the page's actual backgrounds, font size, images or other accessibility requirements.

Screen picking requires browser support for the EyeDropper API. The extension targets Chrome 114 or later. Suggested shortcuts can be unassigned when they conflict with another command; the quick start links to shortcut settings.

All included tools are free. Support: balubenko.ink@gmail.com.
